Fendalton School Disco - Friday 25th June

Once again the PTA are holding an annual disco for all the children. This is a fun event that we know all the kids enjoy. Entry is $2 per child, and remember to bring some pocket money as there will be sweets and drinks available to purchase on the night.

The Junior school disco (Yrs 1-3) will take part from 6-7.15pm. Then the Senior school (Yrs 4-6) will take over from 7.30-9pm. Please ensure that you collect the children from the junior disco promptly at 7.15pm.

Please make sure you come to the covered area outside the Village to collect your children at the end of the evening. To ensure the safety of all the children, we will not let anyone go without an adult. So please do not tell your children to meet you in the car park or elsewhere.

Most of all, have lots of fun!

End of term Sausage Sizzle

As always, we will be holding a sausage sizzle for lunch on the last day of term 1, Thursday 1st April. Sausages cost $1.50 each. Just a reminder, that if your child has allergies or special dietary requirements, please bring their own sausages in that morning and we will ensure that they are cooked separately.

Next PTA Meeting

Normally, PTA meetings are held on the first Monday of every month. However, due to how the holidays fall at the end of term 1, we have decided to move our next meeting forward to Monday 29th March, 7.30pm in the school staffroom. All are welcome.

HALLOWEEN DISCO - Friday 30th October 2009

Calling all witches, goblins, wizards, princes and princesses. Get your costumes ready for the Halloween Disco. Junior Disco (Yrs 0-3) 6pm - 7.15pm and Senior Disco (Yrs 4-6) 7.30 - 9pm. Entry is $2 per child, and dont forget your pocket money as there will be sweets, drinks and glow items to purchase on the night.

Parents - Please make sure you collect your children on time and from the village. No children will be allowed to leave without an adult, so please dont ask them to meet you in the carpark or outside.

Principal's Report to the PTA - March 2009

Welcome to the 2009 PTA at Fendalton School. It has been a hectic start to the year, with Swimming Sports, Triathlons, Camps and the start of a few new projects for the staff.

This year the school is part of a Professional Development contract with the University of Canterbury, Literacy Team. The focus of this PD is writing, and it has already fired up some fascinating discussions amongst the teachers.

Alongside this whole school contract we are making some changes to the end of year reports for 2009. This will be a major focus for the year and a key element of this will be communicating our ideas with parents and asking for feedback. To this end, I am holding parents meetings to discuss the reports, starting tomorrow (7.30 in the Village). I will repeat this meeting next Tuesday at 2pm. I hope that this will be an opportunity for parents to express their thoughts about how we currently report on their children's progress and, more importantly, how we could do this better. It would be great to see a big turnout of parents for these meetings, so please spread the word.

Last year's hugely successful carnival was held to raise funds for our seating and shade project and this is ticking along nicely. We now have detailed plans, which the Arts team are looking at to decide the best way to include the children's artwork. Once this has been completed we will be ready to set up some dates for the work to begin. We do need the services of a structural engineer, so if anyone knows one, please could you point them in my direction?

Quiz Night

Thursday 4th September. Last year's winners have put their team in so need to be challenged. Another fun event and just $10 per person. Teams of 4-6 people. Prizes for the best themed team.

Thank you to the winners of last year's 'you know what' prize. They are only missing a small but vital part which we hope to replace and have ready for this year's prize winners.

Friday 22nd August. Juniors (year 1 - 3) from 6.00 p.m. to 7.15 p.m. followed by the senior disco (year 4 - 6) 7.30 p.m. to 9.00 p.m. Always great fun so be there. Just $2 entry. Glow bangles and lollies will be on sale during the event.

Just For You Evening

What a fantastic event. With speakers on motivation, health, nutrition, beauty treatments and make up along with fashion by Vixen Clothing followed by Factor and Mr Jones, there was something for everyone. We had some spectacular models who could have turned professional but fortunately they have all decided to remain in their day jobs.

Not only did we all have a fun night, we also raised $2,000 for the school. Thanks everyone.

SBS Marathon Drinks Station

Once again your PTA has got together and completed another fabulous fund raiser for our school.

On Queens Birthday weekend some people were taking part in a bit of a jog around Christchurch and the Fendalton PTA were asked to man a drink station to provide water, energy drinks and sponges to help them go faster.

It all starts fairly early in the morning and Sara W. had organised for around 20 people to help out. While it was pretty cold and breezy down by the river where the stand was set up, there was an abundance of good cheer, flasks of hot chocolate and some amazing baking to warm us all up.

The runners were appreciative of all our work handing out their drinks and of the support they received with the children managing to fill cups of water as well as cheering them on.

Well done to all those who helped. You're amazing.

Coir Mats

Fundraising

We have many things planned including more Charles Wiffen wines, the SBS Marathon Drink Station and of course, the Carnival in November. Lost Property

It's lost. We've got it. You own it. Come and get it!

Each week three people from the PTA spend a lot of time sorting the mountain of clothing, lunch boxes and hats... Their time is as valuable as yours so please respect that and come along and claim back your items. Recent lost property is held on the rack or in the baskets just inside the office.

If you have lost something please collect it today. If it has been missing for some time it may be in the locked lost property cupboard. Access to this cupboard is Monday morning between 8.45 and 9.15 a.m.

Spring Ball

PTA Spring Ball 2007

We all looked gorgeous, even if I do say so myself. It was a great atmosphere at the Hotel Grand Chancellor. With food, music and some of the loveliest people in town it was bound to be a great night. Don’t just take it for granted – check out the photos on the website.

What Not To Wear Evening

So many of us were there including the local press but for those who weren’t …
It was a fabulous evening of glamour.
With clothes modelled by our own community, hair and make up demonstrations by Ginger Meggs and Bobbi Brown, it was a great mix that had us all buzzing by the end of the night.
I can still hear the collective aah from the crowd as Paulette modelled the evening wear. (Insert scan of newspaper article.)

Sausage Sizzles

The PTA will probably cook up around two and half thousand of them by the end of the year. We don’t need much of an excuse but end of term, sports events, pool icebreakers – we’ll be there behind the barbies.

I bet you can smell them now.

Boys Breakfast and Senior Girls Lunch

Isn’t it great to see all the parents join the children at school.

The boys had a whale of a time doing ‘man’ type action games, watching El Grego the magician and eating ‘man’ food.

The girls had a much more civilised but no less enjoyable lunch with guest speakers Marg Foster and Lizzie Rae.

Both events were well attended and recieved with enthusiasm by the children.

Quiz Night Term 3 2007

Nothing like using your brain to warm you up on a cold winter’s night. That’s what around 100 of you did in August.

Some took it seriously and others answered the question ‘What is the female equivalent of the Davis Cup?’ with ‘the Mavis cup’ and another answer of ‘ironing’. I don’t think those teams were the winners but they had a good time like the rest of us.

This team look like winners and next year they’re dressing up!

School Disco Term 3 2007

Once again our hero DJ Dan was on music, children were on the floor, parents were on the door. A lot of hair gel, a lot of trendy clothing and some amazing dance moves. It was great fun.

Fortnightly - Fendalton Cafe

We run the cafe before the fortnightly Friday school assemblies. These are in the Village at school and not only are they useful to have a coffee before you go to assembly, they are also useful to have a coffee before you go somewhere else.

And it’s good coffee donated by Café Laffare along with delicious slices donated by Fendalton New World supermarket. All are welcome from 8.55 a.m. to come along and catch up with other caregivers to keep up with all the goings on around the school. Toddlers welcome.
